Alpaca Roving - SOLD OUT
Spinners love alpaca roving! Roving made from alpaca fiber is naturally flame retardant, warm, hypoallergenic, extremely light weight, and cozy. It doesn’t feel scratchy as wool often does, because alpaca fibers are smooth, not barbed. Alpaca’s thermal properties are second to none. There is nothing finer than alpaca roving for spinning into fabulous yarn. Your treasured projects deserve only the best, so use alpaca.
Alpaca is extremely warm and lightweight. Alpaca fibers are smooth and contain no lanolin. They wick moisture and breathe naturally. Alpaca is hypoallergenic. Alpaca contains no Lanolin nor does it hold dander due to the composition of the fiber, providing a healthier sleep environment. Alpaca also discourages bed bugs and mattress mites as there are no microscopic particles for these pests to feed on. Like wool, alpaca stays warm when wet, but alpaca doesn’t get the unpleasant “wet sheep” smell that goes with wet wool.
Alpaca roving is different from batting. Fibers in batting that are run through a drum carder are not aligned. The fibers in roving that are run through a drum carder are aligned. Roving staples are put through a drum carder in a way to make the fibers parallel. To care for your alpaca items, hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent and lay flat to dry. Do not wring or twist. Do not agitate it in the washer - it will felt and shrink if agitated and ruin it. Never put anything made with alpaca roving in the dryer - the heat and tumbling motion will ruin it.
Rovings are not only for spinners! They can be knitted with large needles into scarves, soft lap throws or blankets. Rovings can be knitted and then felted to produce hats, vests, and other items and are great for needle-felting. So many possibilities!

Alpaca Manure "Black Gold"
Although lower in organic matter than other traditional manures, alpaca manure has a lot of value in the garden. In fact, many gardeners find this type of manure to be an excellent source of nutrients for optimal soil and plant health.
Is Alpaca Manure Good Soil Enhancer?
Using alpaca manure as a soil enhancer is beneficial. Even with its lower organic content, alpaca manure is considered a rich soil conditioner. Alpaca manure improves the soil quality and its ability to retain water. It is also good for plants with a fair amount of nitrogen and potassium and about average levels of phosphorous. Alpaca manure is lower in organic matter content than the manure from most other barnyard livestock (cows, horses, goats and sheep) creating a higher concentration of nutrients as well as improves soil texture and water-holding capacity. The values of manure and organic fertilizers in general, are often based on the relative amount of nitrogen (N), phosphoric acid (P) and potash (K) they contain. Alpaca manure N-P-K values are approximately 1.5-0.2-1.1. Since alpaca manure is mostly found in pellet form and doesn’t have the same components as other livestock feeders like cows and horses, it does not need to be aged or composted before use. You can spread it directly onto garden plants without burning them.
How Do I Use Alpaca Manure as a Soil Enhancer?
Generally, you can find bags of alpaca manure available from alpaca farmers who obtain it straight from the source. When using alpaca manure, you can put it on top of the garden soil and then water it or wait and let the rain help soak it in. For those in colder climates, you can also spread the manure over snow-filled garden beds and allow it to soak into the soil as the snow melts. Either way alpaca manure breaks down rather quickly.
Alpaca Soil Enhancer Tea
Alpaca manure tea is another option for garden plants. This is especially helpful for giving seedlings a jumpstart. Simply mix about a third cup of alpaca manure to every 2/3 cup of water and let it sit for 24 hours. Then use the liquid (manure tea) to water your plants. *Alpaca Manure Tea is a soil enhancer and is not intended for human consumption.
Alpaca Manure Compost
Although composting alpaca manure is not necessary, doing so is easy. Composted alpaca manure can offer additional benefits as well. One of the easiest ways to create alpaca manure compost is to simply mix it in with other organic materials. As with any compost pile, this is best accomplished by alternating layers of browns and greens—browns being woody materials like small garden debris and leaves, and greens being kitchen scraps like fruit peels, eggshells, etc. This should be kept moist but not wet and turned occasionally. Depending on the amount of compost, it should take anywhere from a few weeks or months to a year before it’s ready for use. Adding worms to the pile will help break everything down quicker in addition to lending their own nutritional value. The finished compost should have a pleasant odor and a nice dark brown to black color. Once added to the soil, composted alpaca manure can help increase crop yields and promote healthy, vigorous plant growth.
Whether you add alpaca manure directly to the garden, make manure tea, or use alpaca manure compost, your plants will thrive. In addition, the nearly odorless alpaca soil enhancer may even help deter deer pests, as they find its aroma offensive.
Our alpaca manure is collected daily. Email for availability. $25 tractor scoop.
